Elite Dangerous - Station over Planet

Elite Dangerous

Loving what I’m hearing about Elite Dangerous, the new multiplayer version of Elite which exceeded it’s Kickstarter goals, and thus means there will also be a Mac version (yay!). I’ve signed up for the beta program by donating, so I’ll definitely be out there in space in 2014.

Elite was a game I loved back in my Spectrum+ days, and spent weeks on it, and also Frontier Elite on my Amiga (still have the Dark Wheel book somewhere, either here or at my dad’s)…and I dreamed of a multiplayer version back then. Glad it finally will become a reality, and looks a lot more friendly than EVE (anything which you have to join a ‘clan’ to survive isn’t that fun, and goes against the Elite ethos where you can be a lone wolf and form allegiances as you want) but more directed than say Second Life.

I haven’t been excited for a game in a LONG time…I made Dangerous or maybe even Deadly when I last played it, so hopefully some of the Elite magic is still there…and the idea of docking to other ships, future ability to land on planets (properly, I know you could on previous versions but there wasn’t much to see) and exploring the outskirts and following missions (I think missions will still be involved, if not looks like you’ll be able to be hired to help out and form ad-hoc teams).

w00t! As they say. Now I have to work out a Commander and NPC name…
