Fleetwood Mac – Rosebud

Fleetwood Mac tends to be seen as the antithesis of punk, new age, floaty, AOR rockers. This belies the fact that not only did they come from very raw blues, they could actually rock out like the best of them, and even the ‘floaty’ songs were very different live. Even a happy ‘Mac seemed quite angry live if some of the footage was anything to go by.

By chance of someone posting an excerpt from this film and going to look for a better copy for the Nth time, I found that not only was all or some of the legendary ‘Rosebud’ documentary was released on DVD, it was also shown on Australian TV for the first time a month or two back:

Why is this important? Well it contains probably the BEST version of Rhiannon, an early version I used for the ‘White Witch Dub‘ video (the only real competition is the Midnight Special version from slightly later where Stevie rips the roof off at the end) and shows a band in their prime, before drugs, fall-outs and the success of Rumours changed everything. And boy were they tight live. Also check out the blistering version of ‘I’m Not Afraid’.
