I got fed up of looking at the really old Mutantpop mashup blog (so old, it was based on Kubrick and by now the patches on the patches were creaking….) I gave it a bit of a redesign. Oh and comments are fixed now – why no-one tells me these things, I don’t know…you could leave a comm…oh.
It was a few anti-spam bot plugins like Killabot-APx being so effective no-one could post a comment at all. Gah. You should always check those, especially when they get a bit old. Does mean the spam is starting to flood in again…
So the Redesign of the Suture includes refreshed themes for the Instamatic/Captain Obvious blog, DJNoNo’s crib and tbc. Also the player should work now, that was the most fiddly since Wimpy seemed to have totally died a death and refused to work on my old blog, and I prefer JWPlayer anyway.
The player is STILL not HTML5 compatible (sigh) but I guess that’s coming for those of us with external playlists which flake out without Flash due to various silly pointless reasons (sorry we wanted to ditch Flash BECAUSE of the Cross Domain, not have a new even harder one) …it’s been a problem with the Podcast player here, even with supposed HTML5 support it still refuses to work due to it being an external RSS feed where I can’t fiddle with the HTTP Headers. WTF? Fail.
This is why HTML5 won’t take over the world just yet, you’ve got to make it easy for all those millions of MP3 blogs and players to update first, rather than throw loads of complex scripts and terms at them, and things that need server-side access or PHP header knowledge. This is not going to fly on most hosts.
BTW geek call: if anyone has a good PHP or similar script for RSS that can handle multiple subdirectories of MP3s with ID3 let me know? No not Dircaster, glad to see it still going (it claims someone else was the first to hack id3 into it, that’s not true it was yours truly, I used to use it for my first podcasts before setting up this blog 😉 but it can’t do multiple subdirectories/recursive searching which is what I need.
I’m using XPSF at the moment but that’s not HTML5 compatible in JWPlayer. Well unless RSS is on a remote host without some header security doobry set on it. See what I mean? It’s endless, and really stuff like this needs to be sorted out before HTML5 will become mass-market. Also we all need to upgrade to Cray computers since it’s so s-l-o-o-o-o-w in the browser, but that’s another issue…
