Mark Hosler of Negativland on Creative Commons

Mark Hosler talking in 2006 – I didn’t know Negativland was involved in the creation of the Creative Commons sampling license. 😀 Love the comments about idealism, artistic and creative control being impossible, Marky Mark and that advertising is not free speech.

And via Eric Kleptone is some documentary footage of the True/False tour, and interview with Don Joyce and Mark Hosler. Where is this from? (can’t be Sonic Outlaws as that was 5 years earlier). I wish the True/False tour had come to the UK (in fact I don’t think they’ve ever toured the UK, not in recent times anyway).

    The interview / live stuff comes from The Circuit Music Journal 7 DVD http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0790751933/internetmoviedat

    And no… The only recent Negs showing in the UK, afaik, was a one-off lecture from Don and Mark in London a few years back (No, I didn’t go – can’t recall why…)

    However, looking for info on that lecture turned up this comment from Mark on their website:

    “We’d love to play in the UK as we never have. I hear they speak the same language as we do. And of course OVER THE EDGE is broadcast every week on Resonance FM in London (and, heck, I did a lecture on Negativland in London about 4 years ago, on the same bill as the lovely PEOPLE LIKE US). Got any leads? We don’t.”

    So there you go.

      Right we:

      – know loads of people with contacts in London and venues;
      – I will shortly have some money;
      – I would pay to put on Negativlands first (and only?) UK gig.

      A plan?

      The shizzle that scares me is promotional stuff – and the logistic-y things (not so much getting them there, or flights – more the sound/equipment/where are the mics-leads type stuff). Might need someone to help with those, someone with experience.
