RC 225: Babylondon 2012

Welcome to Gridlock! They call it murder…

A state of the capital address about London, 2012, Babylon and ting. Righteous music from roots reggae to dubstep, soul, rock and gothabilly & psychobilly (and two Orchestras  and  some funky dubby jaxz from Miles Davis!) celebrating Jamaica’s 50th birthday and Red, Gold and Green rather than Bronze, Gold and Silver.

“The man who worships silver and gold, shall surely, surely, surely lose his own soul, Then fade away”. (and a track I forgot to play on this podcast! Bless you Junior Byles).

I don’t play enough Jamaican music so inspired by David Rodigan here is a dubtastic podcast.

RC 209: Norwegian Blue

Although I recorded this last week I was so busy only just got round to posting it now, the 2nd of the 3 back to back (ish) shows…and this is a companion piece to RC 167: Not Here Right Now, with a downtempo look at that terrible events in Norway and the death of Amy Winehouse…where words fail and all you have is music left.

Rather than focusing on the gorey lurid drive-by moneyshots that the media specialises I tried to make more a downbeat meditative show (a calm lake to the last show’s crashing sea) with hope in it’s eyes, partying and throwing glitter into the face of fascism but also exploring the darker and angrier side of a slightly schizophrenic happening – but at no point giving the platform to madness.

Shout outs go to CTels excellent Acid Ted blog where I got and found out about Kodomo and suchlike, Potholes in my Blog for the Weeknd remix, Indie Shuffle and of course Stereogum.
