A friend posted an article about the top ten Suede tracks, and shockingly ‘Still Life’ wasn’t one of them. The closer on Dog Man Star, it usually was performed acoustically in concerts, on record it showed Bernard Butler’s obsession with BIG orchestras which is why I preferred the live versions like the one I saw on TV. But I never knew that the tour had films, and above is the beautiful one for Still Life.
Funny the comments saying ‘Is this Derek Jarman’ – err no, he was dead by the time they were touring Dog Man Star, and sadly never got to get that old, let alone grow a beard. There is a certain Jarman-esque quality to it though, and certainly they did work together.
