Again, playing catch up on 2013, but an article in Vice about all those Sound of 2014 list (yah know how I hate those, how they tend to pick dead cert mainstream label-backed artists, ones that get the push so they know they’ll have something to crow about next year – no-one saw XX or Arctic Monkeys coming, the next big thing can’t be forecast that easily anymore) mentioned in a sly-we’re-not-doing-that-end-of-year-thing-but-actually-we-will-do hipster way: Jungle and their song Platoon.
I don’t know anything about Jungle apart he’s from London (I think it’s one guy), released this summer last year, and it features the cutest b-girl EVER. I love this sound, it straddles soul, funk, post punk-funk (Gang of Four or TV on the Radio for instance) and psych quite happily. LIKE.
Also check out this newer track The Heat which is free to download – if like Autre Ne Veut, How to Dress Well, The Weeknd even to some extents Big Black Delta, this is the sound of nu-RnB (or PBR&B if you must) then I’m a happy camper indeed…
