Late with this, heard it a while back but it crossed my path again and I thought it worth posting, the incredibly evil Funtcase mix of Plan B’s Ill Manors, you can keep yer Skrillex, mate. Oi! OI! OI!
I also do like the original, I think working with Chase and Status has rubbed off with the violent crashing breaks. First thing I’ve liked of his since the first LP (that risibile soul excursion included) and yes the video says all you need to know about ‘Broken Britain’, although some people won’t really get the self-critical/political nature of the song, saying the stupid Daily Mail line that it’s encouraging violence, but like all good hiphop it’s about telling the truth on the street – and should be critical of the life, not glamourise it.
I did watch him talk at TEDx – Ben Drew comes over as very sussed and smart, especially since he’s gone through the record label mill now (I remember reading his interviews around the release of his first LP, he’s changed!) and his projects are really good, and I love what he’s trying to do, and the movie he’s directing sounds really good…
I can’t post Ill Manors without posting Peter Fox, the whole beat/backing is lifted from there via that Original Gangster, Shostakovich:
